Insurance and Documentation

It is important when travelling outside of the UK that you have adequate Travel Insurance and an up to date GHIC. The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) lets you get necessary state healthcare in EU countries, and some other countries, on the same basis as a resident of that country. This may be free or it may require a payment equivalent to that which a local resident would pay. You can apply for a GHIC here https://services.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/cra/start. It is useful to have a copy of your Travel Insurance documents available when you travel.

Chemist

You will find the Famous Chemist! The Chemist will help with lots of advice and offer different medicines for you. Please make sure you keep hold of any receipts you might need for claiming when back in the UK.

The pharmacist is located on the Main Road through Pefkos, next to Jasmine and close to the Taxi rank. There are also pharmacies in Lardos and Lindos.

Working hours are:
Mon-Sun. 09:00 to 14:00 and 17:30 to 21:00

Doctor

The local Doctor in Pefkos is Dr Dimitris Zenettulis. He has an office in Pefkos (on the row of shops where Caprice and Stella Supermarket are - opposite the pharmacy) and one in Lindos. You can visit his office as a walk in but his hours may be sporadic. For an appointment or to call him out to your Hotel, you can call him on +30 694 4644 888 / email pefkosmedicalcentre@gmail.com. Please be aware that Dr Dimitris is a private Doctor and there will be a consultation and treatment fee, usually in excess of €50 – you should ask for and keep any receipts to claim these charges back on your travel insurance.

If you wish to visit a public doctor, you will need to present your GHIC and there is a daytime clinic in Gennadi and a 24 hour walk in clinic on the main Rhodes-Lindos road in Archangelos.

Hospital

The main public hospital is located in the North of the Island. If you present as a non-emergency and have travel insurance, they may refer you to Euromedica which is a private hospital also in North Rhodes.

They also hire pushchairs for children and will deliver locally.

The above temperatures are IN THE SHADE so you can add a few more degrees to each average. The above is just a rough guide – we have had rain and storms in June, and August temperatures in April!

You are more likely to experience showers or cloud during May, June, September and October although these tend to be fleeting and the temperature remains warm.

When can I swim in the sea?: The sea here in resort is extremely clean and the beach is sandy and has a low slope gradient making swimming conditions perfect.
Please be aware that there are no life guards on any of the beaches in Pefkos.
Will I need Air conditioning?: Again, this is down to personal preference. Almost certainly in July and August you will need AC. However some people prefer to open windows or use a fan if provided. It is unlikely that you will need AC in May or October as the weather is much more bearable and we experience some breezes which help to cool things down.
